Purple Heart Scholarships

If you have received a Purple Heart or are the dependent of someone who has received one, scholarship opportunities abound to help you pay for college. There are many colleges and universities as well as veterans organizations across the country that offer Purple Heart scholarships. These scholarships can help in paying for books, tuition, and room and board. Overall the scholarships provide a great educational opportunity to veterans, their spouses, and dependents.

Nationally, Purple Heart scholarships are offered by the Military Order Of The Purple Heart. These scholarships can be used to attend any college, university, or trade school. Information on the qualifications and requirements for the scholarships offered by the Military Order Of The Purple Heart can be obtained by calling their headquarters at (703) 642 – 5360 or by emailing them at scholarship@purpleheart.org.

The Northern New York Community Foundation also offers Purple Heart scholarships in partnership with the Rotary Club of Watertown, New York. The scholarships are awarded to anyone who has been awarded a Purple Heart, their spouses, or their children. The scholarship awards are for up to $3,000 for one year. The applicants must be residents of Jefferson, Lewis, or Saint Lawrence counties in New York. They can be beginning any year of undergraduate study as long as they’re taking a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester. In addition to the previously mentioned organizations, Bellevue University offers Purple Heart scholarships in the amount of $1,000 to Purple Heart recipients. Any service person who has received the purple heart is eligible for this scholarship. The scholarship can only be used for attending classes at Bellevue University. The scholarship is renewable provided that progress towards a degree is maintained. As you can tell from the above mentioned scholarship programs, there are many opportunities for Purple Heart recipients to be able to afford to attend college. Simply by searching out all financial aid opportunities available, veterans and their dependents can pursue a degree in any desired field. The opportunities are endless that are available to those who are recipients of the Purple Heart or are a dependent of a Purple Heart veteran.
